Is blogging good for your health?

Well you may be wondering what’s today topic all about… Well there are many health benefits of blogging. There are many evidence to support the notion that blogging has positive impact on your physical wellbeing.

The University of Texas at Austin psychologist and researcher James Pennebaker contends that regular blogging strengthens immune cells, called T-lymphocytes.

Other research indicates that blogging decreases the symptoms of asthma and rheumatoid arthritis.

Also writing about stressful events helps you come to terms with them, acting as a stress management tool, thus reducing the impact of these stressors on your physical health.

Other benefits of blogging.

1. Clarify your thoughts and feelings.
Do you ever seem all jumbled up inside, unsure of what you want or feel? Taking a few minutes to jot down your thoughts and emotions (no editing!) will quickly get you in touch with your internal world.

2. Know yourself better.
By writing routinely you will get to know what makes you feel happy and confident. You will also become clear about situations and people who are toxic for you — important information for your emotional well-being.

3. Reduce stress.
Writing about anger, sadness and other painful emotions helps to release the intensity of these feelings. By doing so you will feel calmer and better able to stay in the present.

4. Solve problem more efficiently.
Typically, we problem solve from a left-brained, analytical perspective. But sometimes the answer can only be found by engaging right-brained creativity and intuition. Writing unlocks these other capabilities and allows unexpected solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems.

Social-Media Detox

You may have heard of the term Detoxing. It’s getting rid of the unwanted substance from your body. You do it by adding healthy things to your diet and replacing it with unhealthy items, and you get benefits like weight loss, higher energy level, better sleep, etc. As simple as that.

So the above thing is true for your health but What about mental health? (Yeah! what about it, I am fine.) Well, that ” I am fine” just sounded like him.

Also, the relation between mental health and social media is just like it’s between health and junk food. Yes, it has its own fun but when exceeds certain limits it’s harmful. I have been using social media since high school and never thought of its negative side until I watched “The Social Dilemma” on Netflix.

The Social Dilemma

A Documentary-drama hybrid that explores the dangerous human impact of social networking sites. This features interviews of many former employees, executives, and other professionals of top tech companies and social media.

There are so many beneficial qualities of social media as an interpersonal connection across long distances, acquiring knowledge, etc. But the documentary also covers its negative sides like company manipulating their users to get addicted, how their actions on the online platforms are tracked, monitored, and recorded.

Well, coming back to the point after watching this series I tried to take some time off from social media. And here I am gonna answer a few of the questions.

Q1. How do I do it?

I uninstalled Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. And turned off the notification of Whatsapp, Telegram (the hard way as we say) or you can do it just by turning off the notification too.

Q2. How I Felt?

To be honest it was not that hard for the first 2-3 days because of the documentary I watched. But, in later stages, I felt like missing important events (FOMO as we say), and the urge to re-installing it made me realize how addictive these apps were.

Q3. Now What? What after 30-days?

Well, those 30 days were like a battle which I fought and successfully won but what now. Now, I use social media but am not endlessly scrolling down or wasting time watching other’s stories. My Instagram and Twitter activity is limited to 10 minutes a day, Facebook is De-activated and notification of Whatsapp and Telegram are still left off (never felt used to turn it on).

Everything has its Pros and Cons (We know this from childhood, Right!) but we are so into social media that we didn’t realize it has to. So keeping up with Kardashians is not as important as keeping up ourselves. So try this for a day, week or month, or even a year(there’s no loss, apart from if your influencer), and let me know your experience in the comment section.
